Have a 1988GMC 2500 Sierra 350 Am having problems with it having any power when under pressure. It was missing and acting like it was out of gas did a tuneup ran good for 3 days after tuneup then broke down. When sitting still idling was running ok but if you tryed to give it any gas will stall or just not have any power so changed the ignition module last night and would stay running but had to like play with the gas pedal for the truck to move could only give it alittle gas at a time now this morning any time I try to give it any gas it stalls right out

Assuming that your ignition coil is okay, there are three likely possibilites:

1) Your EGR valve is stuck partially open.  Usually, this creates a rough idle (but it does not have to) and can cause an engine to stall when the throttle is opened.

2) Your MAP or MAF sensor is defective and the computer cannot read the amount of air coming into the engine.  The computer usually has a "limp" mode that will still allow the engine to run but fuel economy suffers.

3) Your fuel system has a fault.  Most likely cause is a partially clogged fuel filter.  The filter is a stainless steel canister that is mounted inline along the fuel tubing running from the tank to the engine.  Other possibilities are a defective fuel pressure regulator and/or a failing fuel pump.

I would try replacing the fuel filter first.  If that does not help, the vehicle should be taken in for a diagnostic evaluation.

Could you please explain to me where i could locate the map or maf on the motor

Answer
Denise,

I do not have any information on the location of the MAP or MAF.  You might try looking at the part at an auto parts store and then trying to find it under the hood of your vehicle.

The other choice is to take the vehicle in for a diagnostic evaluation.
