GM-GMC: engine replacement, emissions testing, metal tubing

Question
this is not a diesel question but can you still get me an answer? my s-10 is a 95 4 cyl auto and a/c and has no power. what years of v-6 can i put into this truck and what type of a hassel will it be?

Answer
I can only provide a general response:

You will have to change or modify the following parts:

Radiator, exhaust system, wiring harness (at least for the engine), motor mounts, hoses and metal tubing associated with the fuel system, transmission cooler, and emission control.

The transmission may also not be strong enough for a larger engine.

In short, you may be better off selling or trading your vehicle to get the one you want.  If you can do your own work, it might be possible to convert your vehicle for less than the cost of selling/trading/buying a different one, but I doubt it.

Also, if you live in an emissions testing area, your modified vehicle may not pass emissions and become illegal to drive anywhere but on private property.
