GM-GMC: S15 Transmissions, speedometer calibration, speedometer gear

What years of 5speed manual overdrive can I use as replacement in my 1988?I know they used this transmission for a few years,and if I am going to find a used replacement,I prefer the newest year one I can find.

You got me on this one as I really don't know.

You want to be VERY CAREFUL as you will need to most likely replace the speedometer gear so it matches the vehicles road speed EXACTLY or you may develop performance problems as the speed sensor is part of the computer system.

Your best bet is to take it to a speedometer calibration shop, Where the police department gets their vehicles speedometers calibrated.
