QUESTION: hi i have a 98 honda civic hx and im having problems with it when i drive it the rpm goes up and down while im accelarating instead of just going up. and when i stop it feels like it whants to turn off the RPM needle just moves up and down i have to put it on neutral for it to stop do u have any idea on what it might be ?? please help !!

ANSWER:  Is the car a 5 speed manual or the CVT transmission? Do you have any check engine or warning lamps on? How many miles are on the car? What rpm will the car drop to when it "feels" like it is going to turn off?

QUESTION: its a CVT auto transmission and no check engine or warning lamps. the car has 152000 miles and it drops down to the 1 on the rpm ! j have gone to mechanics so they can scan it with the computer but nothing appears.

Answer
I have several ideas but your description heads in different directions.  1000 rpms or 100 rpms. What you are describing may like an idle control valve problem.  Make sure the engine antifreeze coolant level is correct.  An intake vacuum leak can cause idle surging or a failing EGR valve can cause a misfire and rough idle. It sounds like you'll need to take your car to a more experienced technician on this concern.
