Honda: My 1996 honda accord is over heating, Honda, overheating

Question
Hi,
i have a 1996 honda accord 4cyl. Last week, i noticed that it started to overheat everytime i drive over 10 miles. the first time it did that, i stopped and waited for 2 hours, then i put water and then got back to the road. but lately it has gotten worse, it would overheat in less the 3 miles. what can i do? Is it a big problem? how can i solve this? I really need your help.

And also a friend of mine told me that i could replace the engine with a more recent one, like a 1998 or 2000 engine. If i would have to replace my engine would that be possible?

Answer
First,I'd check to see if the engine cooling fans are operating. It does sound like you have a serious problem that is only getting worse. If you have added coolant there is a leak and that needs to be corrected. Have the system pressure tested to determine where the coolant is leaking. If you are lucky it's not leaking into the combustion chamber at the head gasket. The engine from a 1998 or 2000 is not a direct replacement for your car.
