Mercedes: 89 420sel oil pressure fault, cam lobes, headgaskets

Question
Hey i just recently replaced the headgaskets on my 4.2 v8.After doing this i have ended up with little to no oil pressure at normal operating temp.Driving along it sits at about 1.5 but sitting there with my foot on the brake and in gear it goes to zero.

Answer
Kevin,
Severe engine damage will occur if you operate under this condition. It sound to me like an oil passage is covered or partially covered by the gasket. The oil to the valves must come through journals from the block to the head.
I would locate a gauge and screw it directly into the oil port in the block to see the actual pressure.
Make sure your are not seeing any water in the oil. It will cause the oil to look milky.
With the valve covers off see if there is oil being pumped over the cam lobes.
What is the oil pressure when cold?
There is also a possibility that you have some debris in the oil strainer in the pan.
Good Luck, Let us know what you find out.
