Mercedes: Donut rims for an 87 260E, factory rims, rims and tires

Question
My 260E has reached its last leg without extensive reworking and I just put news tires on the rims. I'd like to sell the rims and tires to try to recoup some of my expenses before junking the car. Is there a way to find generic donut rims to switch out with the factory rims?

Answer
Marcus,
There are several possible solutions.
Place an ad on Craig's list or similar web based site with a description of your vehicle, lug pattern and measurements and what your are seeking.

Call the scrap yard and ask it they have some loaner rims you could use to transport the vehicle to them. You may need to place a return deposit to be able to take them off site. With the understanding that it will be refunded after you bring them the vehicle
If they do not have rims for this purpose, then ask if you can drive the vehicle in and remove the wheels on site, as you want to keep the tires and rims you have.
You should take the jack and some block on which the set the vehicle.

The yard owner near me is very accommodating to this type of process, particularly with the price of metal being down. He sold out a large inventory during the high prices last year and is trying to rebuild his steal products.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.
