Mitsubishi: idling problems, coolant hose, pop sound

Question
I was getting gas and when I turn back on my car it was acting like it didn't want to start, then I heard a pop sound under the hood of the car followed by smoke the car started but it is idling very low and cut off on mme at the stop light. I had to keep my foot on the break and press the gas in order for it not to cut off on me. What could of happen to cause this?

Answer
Well that doesn't sound good.  The pop sound may have just been a misfire.  Also, it could be many other things like a rubber hose or line rupturing, popping loose, or a gasket letting go...  The smoke makes me thing that maybe a hose burst or popped off and that some fluids were burning off the exhaust.  Did you see any fluids dripping out onto the ground?  What is the year make and model of the vehicle?  I wouldn't drive it around too much until you make sure that a coolant hose didn't burst... you don't want to overheat!  If the cooling system is fine we can try narrowing it down some more.
