Mitsubishi: 95 Montero alternator belt and transmission problems, aisin warner, alternator belt

Question
Hi Dinger,  I have two questions.  First, my alternator belt is slipping occasionally (when I slow to turn then accelerate it will squeal for about 2-3 sec), how do you tighten it?  Second, while driving when I allow the truck to slow to around 40 mph then accelerate the transmission slips until the rpms pickup then its fine.  It only does it at that speed and at no other time.  If I accelerate from a stopped condition to 65 mph then there is no transmission problem, only when I slow to around 40 mph then get on the gas again.  Thanks, Eric

Answer
Hi Eric,

If you look there will be an adjustment bolt at the alternator. You'll need to loosen the bracket bolts, crank down the adjustment bolt, leaving a half inch of play and then crank down the bracket bolts. Slipping can be caused by low fluid, you need to check it, warm, running and in neutral. Please set the e-brake first! If it's low, then your leaking and that will need to be fixed. If the fluid level is correct, then start saving your money for an overhaul. That transmission is an Aisin Warner 30-40LE. Toyota. Probably THE most expensive transmission to overhaul short of the European exotics. Sorry, wish I had better news for you... Hopefully, your just low on fluid! Happy Thanksgiving!
