Mitsubishi: Mitsubishi Eclipse wont start, mitsubishi eclipse, timingbelt

Question
Thanks Dinger,
It turns out that my pressure plate, tranny, clutch are all fine (I knew it!) My engine is sieved possibly due to a wrong adjustment of timingbelt I got replaced last year. So my engine is gone and needs to be replaced. My mech is asking for $1700 for part and labor (engine itself is $1200, its at 90000 miles, 2.0 engine)does this sound reasonable price to you? I don't really know how much an used engine costs. Thanks for all your time :) Ohh yeah should I also go back to my old mech (the one who replaced my timing belt) and ask him to share the cost with me? I knew from the day I picked up my car the car was shaking weirdly, my steering wheel, my dashboard and I took it back to him. He told me that it was a new timing belt and I need to drive it for several months and it should adjust itself! I thought that was weird but I did what he said and now my engine is broken!

-----Question-----
HI Dinger thanks for the reply.
My car is 5 speed,2.0 engine, about 180,000 miles, '93 eclipse. The car does nothing! It doesn't crank, no lights on the dashboard either. But when connected to a new battery the seatbelts work and the automatic doors, that's about it (as far as I know) The mechanic first thought it was a sieved engined, then he called and said the engine is fine but he is not able to turn the engine even manually, 2nd day he said he got to turn the engine almost to a 360 but not quite yet. So he assumed that the problem must be between the engine and tranny. SO he wants to go under and check my pressure plate and transmission, asking for alot of money....(even my car is not worth that much anymore) Does it sound reasonable to let him go under and see if that's what the problem is when he is not even definite about it? Or could there be other stuff he should check before he goes under? I replaced the timing belt less than 2 years ago... But maybe I should ask him to check that. Until now my car never had any engine problems. For the past 3 years (maybe 4) it has been having electrical problems so I replaced the battery I believe 3 times and the alternator once. Once or twice a year all of a sudden my battery drains, and I either get it recharged or replaced (because sometimes it wears off the battery and its not chargeable)Last year (maybe 15 months ago) I thought it was that manufactory ignition alarm causing the problem so I got it disconnected.... Because each time it had the battery problem the alarm would go crazy and disable me to start the car. So I got it disconnected but somehow even now whenever I connect/ disconnect battery + power that alarm starts beeping again. If you know this year and model Mitsubishis you probably know how that alarm works. When you turn your ignition on before you crank the car you have to wait about 4,5 seconds for the alarm and once you hear the alarm you can start the car (with clutch). If you do not wait for the alarm it would do nothing, not even crank. I know a little about cars but nothing about the transmission or pressure plate. So please give me advice. Thanks again.

The pressure plate is part of the clutch assembly. This may or not be the problem though, it might be the transmission. Your facing an awful lot of repairs on this high mileage car. After spending a ton on the mechanical repairs, your still up against an electrical issue. I don't believe that is a factory alarm, I have seen that type in many other cars. Factory alarms do not go off when reconnecting the battery, but after-market ones will when they reset. Just trying to help and as a friendly piece of advise, cut your loses and find yourself a better car. Please don't take that the wrong way, just hate to see you dump tons into a money pit.

I think you mean seized. This happens due to lack of maintenance, ie... oil changes! or 180,000 miles. I would go back and let the first guy have it, make him help you out. But then again, it is a 93 Eclipse with 180,000 miles. Cut your loses and find yourself some Detroit muscle.
