Mitsubishi: Barke lights and window brake light staying on after shutdown, dash light, brake switch

I have a 93 Galant, auto trans, SOC, 4CY.
I shut down the car and the rear brake lights are staying on. Not the dash light , but the actual brake lights in the rear of the car.
I have to disconnect the bettery cable at night so it will not stay on.
Do you have any suggestions?

Hi Joe,

Easy stuff! You have a bad brake switch or it has come loose. The brake switch is located right on the pedal up toworads the top. Check for tightness and that it's plugged in. It's a white plastic goodie and if it looks ok then you will need to replace it. There are 2 that fit it, a 2 prong part number MB435457 for about $9.00 and a four prong part number MB596608 for around $41.00. These are availible at your local Mitsu dealer. Book time is .4 of an hour... easy stuff!
