Pontiac: Keyless entry, traction control system, loose gravel

Question
I actually have 2 questions. Just bought 2000 Grand Prix for my daughter. There was only 1 key and remote. Remote does not work.On the dash a light blinks continually that says "security". Will programming remote turn light off or is this not related. I also have question about another feature on car. There is a button that say trac. When pushed it says trac off-push again light goes out. What is this. There is no owners manual with this car. Thanks

Answer
No, progamming the remote will not turn off the security light, but both problems could be related. The remote may not work because of a problem with the security system. There should be codes stored in the PCM that will lead to the security problem.
The trac button is for the traction control system. It helps stop the car from "peeling out". It is made to help keep the wheels from spinning out on ice and snow or loose gravel so that you have better control over the vehicle. The button is there so that you can turn the system off if you need to but I dont know why you would want to.
