Pontiac: 1999 Grand PRix GTP airbags, grand prix gtp, pontiac grand prix

Question
I have a question about airbags on my 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP.  I was in an accident where both front bags were blown, I have fixed the body damage and was wondering what steps I should go through to replace the airbags, I have purchased new bags from a junk yard, I have the driver and pass bag as well as the module under the seat.  Do I need a new clock spring? Also are there any other sensors that I need?  How do I proberly disable the SIR system so I don't have an accidental deployment?

Thanks,
Jason

Answer
Yes, you will need a NEW clock spring and all of the sensors. The battery must be diconnected for at least 10 minutes before you do anything to the air bag system. But just a little bit of static electricity can set it off.
If you don't know ALL of the safety precautions that go along with working on air bag systems, I recommend that you DO NOT do it yourself!!! An air bag is made to help save lives when it is properly installed in the vehicle, but when it is in your hands, it becomes a very deadly bomb!
