Pontiac: transmissions?, fiero owner, freeway driving

Question
1992 Pontiac works fine in in-town driving However, after freeway driving and car is warmed up after 45 min. to an hour and you come to a stop the transmission seems as if it does not disengage and full break petal has to be applied and it still will not disengage.  You must physically place the car in nutral, pull it back into gear at an idle kills the engine several times. until parts seem to cool down. i.e. fuel car while it is running in park -- then works ok until the next freeway driving. ( I think the torque converter is locked in overdrive electriclly and some componet is over-heating
thanks

Answer
Yes that definitely sounds like a torque converter lock problem.  In most cases problems like that can be solved by puttting in a new converter lockup switch.  It is located on the torque converter casing right next to the engine and not on the transmission part.

I know a lot of Fiero owner friends have had that problem on their auto transmission cars and that usually solves it.  If it does not, then it might be the converter lockup solenoid, which is behind the swith I believe or maybe it's all one piece I don't exactly know since I've never had to deal with such a problem.

But try changing the switch, I don't think it is too expensive and see if that helps, if not then some mechnic might need to help you out.
