Saab: 1990 SAAB 900S brake lights/blinkers, 1990 saab 900s, light bulbs

Question
What is wrong and how can I fix the following? The blinkers stop working when I step on the brake. I do not know if the taillights work or not when this happens, since I can only see the brake light that is in the rear window (that one does work). I had the blinkers fixed recently and they worked fine for about 3 days, then stopped working again. Having said that, I still do not know if the taillights were working... Thanks, Ashli

Answer
Ashli:
The brake light circuit and signal light circuit energize adjacent light bulbs in the rear light bulb housing in the area of the trunk. It is most likely a short circuit that has developed between these bulbs. I have obaserved this to occur due to corrosion at the big rear light cluster housing. It is easily removed from inside the trunk (as when changing a rear light bulb); when so removed, a careful inspection of the circuit connections between bulbs should reveal the sight of the short citcuit, which you can then "clean up" with something like a potscrubber.

 Hope this helps,
