Saab: 95 Saab Manual Transmission, carrier solution, manual transmission

Question
The gear shifter is stuck and won't allow it to shift. Clutch is fine but can't engage the transmission.

As noted in my profile, my hands on experience is lmited to SAABS older than yours....assuming, however that the designs are similar, which is likely, there are two possible sources for your problem...an "easy" (translate inexpensive) and "hard" (translate mucho $$).

 a. The "easy" problem is in the shift console itself..a reverse lockout spring loaded lever has had a history of failures, causing the shifter to get stuck...usually in reverse.  solution: dissassemble the shift console with fairly straightforward  repair. ($300 or so)

b. The "hard" (ugh!!) possibility: Broken internal transmission parts..often a main bearing carrier. Solution: a COMPLETE rebuild, in the neighborhood of $3K minimum!!

I would consider getting a used transmission from a recycling yard...total would then be in the neighborhood of $1,500.

 Good Luck,
