Saab: steering fluid, saab 9000 cde, power steering fluid

Question
I have a Saab 9000 cde, automatic, lpt, 1996. I had a steering fluid leak which I have had repaired. We no longer have a Saab garage nearby and I used a non specialist.  The reservoir had a blue / green stain on the walls but the garage put red steering fluid in it. According to the car manual it takes Saab Power Steering Fluid 1890. Should the replacement fluid be red or green. help!

Answer
Susan:

Sorry, but I have no hands-on experience with your model, as noted in my profile. As a general rule, however, I would be scrupulous in following the SAAB instructions (this time)! for the following reasons:
(a). Usage of this fluid is non-recurring with a one time fill plus occasional replenishment. Thus cost/inconvenience is low.
(b). On the slight chance that some adverse reaction could occur with the non-SAAB fluid, the cost-benefit tradeoff is unambiguous.
(c). Other vehicles specify special p/s fluid (e.g., Honda) so its not unusual.

Bottom line: I would go for the SAAB stuff on the slight chance of avoiding a future problem.
