Saab: brake lights, Saab underdash kickplate/knee panel removal

Question
QUESTION: Jerry, my brake lights on my 91 saab 900 will not work tail lights are okay but no brake lights and the fuse is good. Also at times when i hit the brakes testing them with the ignition on the brake light will flash on any thoughts?

ANSWER: Jimmy:
Sounds like the brake light switch, located under the dash next to the brake pedal is either loose or broken. Its control button gets pushed inward when the brake pedal is depressed. You may need to remove the knee "kickplate" to get access to the switch, depending on the extent that you can "scrunch" yourself on the driver's side floor.

  Hope this helps,

QUESTION: Thanks Jerry,  The kick plate does it go across the entire dash or only on the driver side.  Iam trying to see what all needs to come off to get to the switch. thanks for all your help. ps also just bought my first spg car

Answer
Jimmy:

The kickplate goes all the way across, at the bottom of the dash panel. Two nuts and one bolt hold it in. The two nuts are accessed from underneath the hood, in the engine compartment at the outside rear end of the compartment, right next to the front door hinges, down against the firewall. There are hard to spot; You'll need a 10 mm socket with extension to undo them. The third fastener is a 10 mm bolt in a recessed hole from the open ashtray in the  middle of the dash. The whole kickplate then is pulled downward and outward..its usually a snug fit against the sides of the passenger compartment.

Hope this helps.  If you are unable to locate the necessary nuts/bolts as noted above, please reply and I'll send a scanned in image that could help.
