Saab: 90 900 turbo vert, noise at left front, cv joints, vibration noise

Question
Hi Jerry,  this old 'vert started making a vibration/noise noticeable on the left
side of the car.  It is speed dependent (>35 mph), and not engine rpm (does
not change with engine rpm).  Also does not change with load on left wheel.
Guessing CV or inner driver.  What else could it be?

Thanks!

Answer
Joe:
Worn - out  inner drivers usually result in load dependent vibrations only. CV joints usually fail my making 'clicking noises' at extreme turning angles. "Usually" is the key word here..in extreme cases these may not apply.
It really sounds more like a tire or brake disk, most probably the former with an internal belting fault..i., e., a bulge. Try switching/changing the tire as a first diagnostic step.
Then examine the brake disk; then shake the half-axle for extra play.
Gotta be one of those!!

                Hope this helps,
