Toyota: Toyota Camry 1993 v6, toyota camry 1993, toyota camry

Question
i have a 1993 v6 with a 3vz-fe engine. i have changed the front head gasket the front cylinder head so far. it still over heats, but not as much. the temp gauge goes up 3/4 of the way when i put the pedal to the metal and drops down as the car comes to idle. i also have noticed some steam coming from the reserve/overflow tank when the temp is half way.. what could be the problem ??? By the way all water pump, thermostat, hoses are new, radiator was cleaned, tested and reconditioned..

Answer
Hey Gerald,

Having replaced and reconditioned all the necessary parts, this is a unusual case of engine over heating, but not unheard of.

As far as my knowledge extends, there could be a couple of reasons due to which the engine might be getting over heated:

i. Faulty coolant sensor: The thermostat will be doing its job of trying to keep the engine temperature as normal as possible. However, with a faulty coolant sensor, the thermostat will never open sufficiently and sufficient coolant won't flow to keep the engine cool enough.

ii. Heat riser valve stuck: A heat riser valve is situated on the intake manifold. If that gets stuck, there is a high possibility of engine getting badly over heated.

Please bear with my limited knowledge sir.

I shall give this concern a deeper look and get back to you at the earliest.

Yours sincerely,

Sriky.
