Toyota: 1996 Toyota Avalon Intermittant AC, toyota avalon, ac compressor

My 1996 Toyota Avalon AC was working fine on long trip yesterday, then suddenly only produced warm air. AC light continued steady and did not flash. This morning I popped the hood, started the engine, and found the AC compressor engages and disengages properly when the AC is turned on and off, and the AC seems to be working again. Is this something for a mechanic to check? Thanks!

I would venture a guess that you were running the car without the recirculate feature active. If so, the evaporator under the dash iced up, and  was preventing the air from going thru the cooling fins. Another cause could be a blocked AC condensate line.
