My mothers car will not stay cranked. If she goes to slow down it dies but it cranks right up. Do you have any idea what could be wrong?

Alright.. let's start from the basics.  Have you kept up with basic maintence?  When was the last time you had a tune-up?

Moving up, is the battery good? The alternator?  Both can be tested at a nearby Autozone (if there is one in your area), you just need to pull them out.  They'll gladly test both components for free.
