Toyota: Toyota cruise control, toyota camry, toyota tech

Question
when the cruise is engaged, the green light appears on the
dash  Then when you set the cruise the light goes out and
the cruise does not work.  This problem is on a 1995 toyota
camry.

If you try to engage the cruise again it will not light up
on the dash and of course won't work.  After a period of
about 3 hours it will engage and turn on the light on the
dash, but when you try to set it, again the light goes out
and the cruise will not work.

Did the cruise system ever work before this problem?  I just want to make sure this problem happened while you were owner of it.  Have any warning lights come on?  

Have you ever washed your engine bay?  Now, I can recommend one of two things.  You can download a manual I have for this and try to take it apart to figure the problem out.  Since the description you have is rather vague, I can sit here and poke at it all day but this way, you'll check EVERYTHING like a Toyota tech would and you'll learn just a smidge more about your car.

The second thing is to bite the bullet and buy a new cruise control.

What would I do?  I'd get the manual and try to see if I can pull it apart.  Maybe the problem will be visible as soon as I pop it open, who knows, right?  If I mess up, it's not liked it even PARTIALLY worked to begin with, so why not?  Lemme know if you'd like the manual.
