Toyota: IDLE RPM, toyota corolla, aggresive

Question
David I have a 1992 Toyota Corolla that jumps when shifting to reverse from drive with the brake on. What is the correct idle speed for this car?

Thank you

Answer
1.6L 4AFE engine.  I'd say about 800 rpms at idle.  It shouldn't be at 1K or higher.  Is this an automatic or manual trans?  If auto, your direct clutch may be worn.  But, I'm not going to try to guess the issue.  My recommendation is to check with a transmission guy to make sure I'm right.

The only other thing I could blame is probably one of your engine mounts being worn but that would cause the car to jump, instead.. the symptom would be an aggresive or mildly aggresive trans engagement.
