Volkswagen: 1978 VW Transporter 2, vacuum leaks, vacuum lines

Question
My bus had been running great.  But I noticed what sounded like a miss, then loss of power.  It ran rough on and off, then finally stopped.  I got it running long enough to make it home where it was kind enough to quit in my driveway.  I figured it was the fuel filter so I changed it, replaced all the fuel lines and fuel pump.  Replaced the spark plugs.  Nothing.  The fuel is being pumped to the cold start valve and I do have fuel going beyond the valve.  I have checked all the vacuum lines and did not find any problems.  The air cleaner filter is good.  If I squirt starter fluid into the air intake, it will start briefly until the liquid is used up and then nothing.  I'm at a loss as to what to try next.  Any suggestions?  Thanks for your help.

1) Although you think you have fuel to the cold start valve,it can be deceiving.  Try this:   With the key on 'on' position, go to the engine compartment.  Remove air filter, and push the flap open with a screw driver, where the air enters the engine.  You should hear the fuel pump kick on.  This is the usual culprit.

2) If it runs, check the next culprit: There is a white wire that goes to the coil, make sure it is connected and is in ok condition. If ok, replace your points and gap them correctly.  The injectors rely on the ignition points opening and closing to provider thier 'signal' to open and close.

If it still does not operate correctly after these steps and you are SURE there are no vacuum leaks - (the area where the brake booster plugs into the engine is a notorious 'leak zone' as is that rubber boot that the intake air sensor connects to), reach out to me.
