Volkswagen: 2002 vw jetta coolant fans not working, vw jetta, problem thanks

Question
My Jettas fans are not coming on when the temp starts overheating per the gauge (blinking lights, 260 on the gauge etc) The temp does go down when driving and when the heater is going. The fans are not coming on when the air is off or on. The air seems to get a lot warmer when the temp starts rising as well. What can I do to resolve this problem. Thanks
Steve

Answer
Hi Steve,

First turn on your air conditioning and see if the fans go on.  They should both run by default.   This will eliminate the motors being faulty.

If the motors check out ok,  there is a switch on the radiator with several wires on it that is designed to kick the fans on when the engine exceeds it's operating temperature.

Check these two areas out.   Let me know.

Thanks,

Ron
