Volkswagen: Low Oil Pressure, low oil pressure, cat heat

Question
Ron,
First wanted to thank you for the advice on my 1991 GTI turns out it was the cat heat shield rattling.
I have a second question, Same car has 80k on the clock, my low  oil light comes on and stays on after the car gets up to operating temperature. It goes off after the car surpasses 2500 rpm. The car's oil level is full. I suspect it's low oil pressure as there is a very slight barely audible ticking coming from the lifters.
My question is there anything I can do to keep the car in safe running condition for about a week until I can afford to replace the oil pump? I just rebuilt the top end on the engine and want to avoid any damage from low oil pressure.

Answer
I'd highly suggest not driving it, however, if you must -- try a thicker grade of oil and see if that raises the pressure.

Also, make sure that the PCV system is hooked up correctly, and check that your guage is properly functioning.

Best of Luck,

Ron
