Volkswagen: brake light 1996 golf, radio shack, police officer

My passenger side rear brake light comes on but is not as bright as the other side. Ive been told by a police officer it was out but then realizes its just dim. I've triple checked and replaced the bulb with VW bulbs.The parts manager told me to check the ground. I told my mechanic and he doesnt see the problem(in the daylight)he says the sun doesnt help?? My son drives the car and I dont want him to get pulled over..Please if you could help...Gary

Hi,

My suggestion is to take out the bulb and clean the socket with electric contact cleaner. (available at Radio Shack).  Unplug the wire in the rear and clean that with contact cleaner as well.

The plug in the rear grounds the light as well.  Make sure that is clean as well.

This should take care of your problem.
