Volkswagen: 2000 Jetta (VR-6) Power Steering Pack, power steering fluid, vr 6

Question
My question is in reference to the seal in a power steering pack on a 2000 Jetta (VR-6). I seen that power steering fluid was leaking, I seen it come out what I thought was the line but dealer says it it a seal on the power steering pack. Dealer says that they can replace the seal but won't cover work unless they replace the entire power steering pack. The unit is $1000.00 vice a seal for a few dollars. HOW HARD IS IT TO REPLACE SEAL VICE UNIT?

Answer
I would find out how much it is to just replace the seal, as compared to the entire power steering unit.

If you haven't been driving the car long with no fluid in it, and it has not been whining, you should be OK with just having the seal replaced.

Let me know how much it costs,  and I'll give you my advice as how to proceed.

Good Luck -- (remember, it is overkill to replace the entire unit if a simple seal is at fault)
