Volkswagen: 1998 GLX Jetta ABS, Pwr Wndws, crz ctrl..., aluminum bracket, vdubs

Question
Hi Ron,
I've read a previous question from about a year ago.
i am having problems with my power windows, ABS, and cruise control.
In your previous diagnosis of the problem, you noted about a black box with a cover in the engine compartment that could have had water damage.
i however, cannot locate the "black box" with these relays in it.
do you have any further details of how to fix this problem and where those relays in this model are located?
local sources tell me that this isn't the problem, but i think this is a very likely key to my problems.
a local told me it was just a connection problem but told me no more.
i know i don't need to replace my power window motors because i can hear them clicking.
please help me.
i too have had 2 vintage vdubs and i'm just trying to get the hang of this watercooled vehicle.
i'd love to hear back from you.
thank you,
ANDREW

Answer
Hi Andrew,

In this particular Jetta, I believe that the relay panel is located under the steering wheel. Take off the bottom cover under the wheel and you should see the relays behind the aluminum bracket.

Check to make sure all the connections are tight, and no wires were pulled out from underneath, perhaps by your leg or such.

Good Luck,

Ron
