In the past few months I have experienced a loss of water.  The car runs OK no overheating but I have to top up the water every 2 to 3 days.  Heating works OK no increase in temperature, no evidence of leaks.  Can you advise me what the problem is

Hi Christine,

Check the oil dipstick and see if it is a white-foamy type color.  If you are not leaking water, it could very well be leaking into the engine via a bad head-gasket.

Another sign of a faulty head-gasket is white smoke coming out of the tail pipe as you pull away.
