Volkswagen: Oil light and buzzer/cold engine light, faulty sensor, cold engine

Question
I have a 2001 beetle 2.0. 55k miles. I have had a recent oil change, so i know the oil is full. My oil light/buzzer comes on around corners and at stops, BUT it only comes on when the cold engine light (blue) is on???? Recently, the cold engine light has been coming on intermittently and staying on even after the engine is warm. This is really weird. I'm thinking the sensors are screwed up somewhere, but i don't know which ones. Thoughts?

Answer
Hi Rick,

The most inexpensive way to do this is to bring your Beetle to a VW Dealership and have them run the OBD codes (On-Board Diagnostics).

This 'report' will give an error code of which sensor is malfunctioning.  They shouldn't charge you any more than $35.00 for this test.

At this point, you can make a decision to have them replace the faulty sensor(s) or do it yourself.  If you choose to do it yourself, feel free to contact me with the sensor name, and I'll be glad to assist you.

Lots of luck, and do this sooner than later, and double-check your oil level.
