Volkswagen: Air Condition, blower motor resistor, vw bug

Question
I have a 2000 VW Bug with 50,000 miles.  Saturday I had my air on in my car for about 10 minutes, next thing I know my air is totally off. Now the fan itself wont even go on.  No air, defrost nothing.  My husband checked the fuses on the driver side of the dash.  No luck. Is there some where else we should be looking?  Any ideas where to go from here?

Thanks,
Maryjane

Answer
Hi Maryjane,

If the fuses all check OK, and you have no blower for heat or A/C, there are two probable causes:

1) The Blower Motor resistor (about $40.00)

2) The Blower Motor itself (about $105.00)

I would suggest taking out the resistor, which a manual would best show you it's location and replacement.

This is the problem about 90% of the time, as per some of the service bulletins I was reading for you online.

For your convenience, I found a link to both the blower motor and resistor:

Just cut and paste the link, it should bring you directly to the site.

Good Luck, and let me know how you make out!
