Volkswagen: VW Bug Window Repair, phillips screw, phillips screws

Question
I have a 67 bug.  I rolled the passenger window up and now the handle spins but the window will not go down.  How do I get the handle, arm rest and door panel off and then what do I do to get the window back working again.

Thanks.

Answer
Hi,

You need a new regulator assembly.  It is available for around 40.00 at:

www.thebusdepot.com

Next,  the pull handle/arm-rest has phillips screws underneath it, and needs to be removed.   The window crank has a plasic cover over a phillips screw, remove that.  Behind the door latch/opener, pry out the plastic cup carefully.  Underneath, you will find another phillips screw, remove that.

After all that is complete, carefully take a flat-head screw-driver wrapped lightly in a rag and pop out the door panel clips, which run around the perimeter of the door.

Too much to type here to replace the window regulator (not hard, though)

The website mentioned above sells the Official Bentley Service manual for your VW, which details how to do it.

Best of luck!
