Volkswagen: 92 jetta GL crank but dont start, selinoid, golf gti

Question
Hi John,
I'm very slow at typing. but here we go.
the lead positive wire that goes to the selinoid
had fried right off the selinoid, so I replased the selinoid. but before I did that, I tried to
jump start the car with someones battery, and I started to see sparks, so I stop. anyway I didn't
have any problems with the car before this. now the re-lay for the fuel pump won't work, but I took the cap off the re-lay and held it together, and got it to by-pass, now I can hear the pump go on. I'm getting spark, and the seat belt connection is good. all the re-lays and fuses are good. I'm mechanically inclinded, but I can not figuer out why I can't get it to start. It will crank but not start. you can call me if you like. I would pay you for your advice. 408-207-5474. or eail would be great.
                       thank you Chris

Answer
can you tell if your getting fuel injected? on the earlier systems the "ECU" is very suseptable to damage from any shorts or even damaged earth wires. (i had a golf gti that broke it's head to bulkhead earth, with the result being it fried my "ECU") to check, disconect the king lead at the coil end (one from dizzy to coil, remove sparkplugs and crank the engine. you should get atomised fuel coming from each cylinder as it reaches tdc (top dead centre). let me know either way please and i'll try to get more info. ps. i do not want any payment, i mearly like to know that i am trying to help people, as one day i may need help from someone and i would be a little frustrated without any help. so thanks for the gesture, but i do not want rewards for advice.
