Volkswagen: glow plugs, general knowlege, glow plugs

my 83 rabbit keeps on burning up glow plugs every few months, any ideas?

I'll assume your glow plug light goes off after you warm them up, prior to starting.

Check the thermo-relay (timer) that turns off the plugs, they may be stuck on.

If you have general knowlege of engines and safety procedures:

Check the voltage at the glowp lugs while the engine is running.  

If it is above 9.5 volts, the plugs are stuck on, and replace the glowplug switch.
