Nissan Repair: P0400 code, exhaust gas recirculation, nissan cars

Question
My check engine light came on, when I check for the code I got the p0400 code which is exhaust gas recirculation. Autozone told me that I needed to either change the EGR valve or take it Out and Clean it. I changed the EGR valve, but the same code came back. What should I do next?

Answer
Ronald,

If the EGR valve did not correct the problem then the path is plugged or the wiring has been damaged.  The EGR is a self sensing device that understands when the unit is working and if the code comes back the unit is not sensing the flow of exhaust gas.  I would remove the valve and use a wire to clear the passage and then reinstall it.  This is what I have found to be the problem on Nissan cars that having replaced the EGR valve did not correct.  Email me back if you need more.
