Volvo: 850 wont start in wet weather, volvo 850 wagon, wet weather

Question
Hi Ray
I have a '97 Volvo 850 Wagon that won't start in wet weather. This happened a few times in the past and we thought we had it fixed but it just happened again.
After checking many things such as ignition coil and others, the final fix involved taking the computer board out, drying it and sealing the box up. This seemed to work for about two months when it died again after a major storm - luckily in our drive way. I can always tell it's about to die as the engine starts to sputter as we're driving. It gets worse as I slow down and will quit at stop lights. Thoughts?

Answer
Paul,
What is missing when it will not start? Does it have spark? Are the injectors pulsing and is there fuel pressure? After you figure these out you will be closer to the fix. If you still suspect the control unit try another one. In a 97 year/model car you can also read the fault codes with a scan tool, see what codes could be posted. Have your Volvo shop keep the car overnight and you go there and start it for them in the morning to show them what is going on.
Cap, rotor and wires are the fisrt thing that come to mind, have they been changed along with the plugs?
