Volvo: Climate control light issue, volvo s80, side mirror

Question

Climate Controls from
Hi, I have an '01 Volvo S80.  On the passenger side of the
climate control area I have 4 climate related buttons:
Defrost, Rear/Side Mirror Defrost, and toggles for heated
seats.  While the rest of the panel (fan speed, temp, A/C,
etc) lights correctly, these four buttons seem particularly
tempermental.  I bought the car in 12/08 and since then they
have remained dark most of the time.  I assumed the light
had burned out and I wrote it off.  2 weeks ago, the four
buttons lit up of maybe the second time since I had the car
and I assumed it was "fixed".  That is until my passenger
pressed the toggle for their heated seat and the four lights
went dark again.  I'm sure a mechanic can fix it, but I'd
like to see if I can fix it myself.  Any ideas what the
problem is?

Thanks,
Garrett

Answer
Garrett,
That sounds like a poor conncetion at either the power or ground side. All you can do is remove the controls and wiggle the wires looking for the poor connection and making sure all the wires are tight. Quite possible not an easy job because of the things that will need to be removed just to get started.
