Volvo: question about my volvo 1995 wagon turbo, time susan, cylinder walls

My car was running fine and it quit and would restart and then stall my son replaced the fuel filter and it will run and then quit and it wants to start and spits and sputters. do you have any ideas? thank you for your time.

I would test for fuel pressure and spark. Pressure should be 42 psi.
Read the fault codes they may lead to something. Check for compression. If it is real low maybe all the cranking has washed out the cylinder walls. Squirt a little oil into each cylinder. Is there in fact enough fuel in the tank? Could the battery be too low and not cranking fast enought?
