Volvo: 1997 volvo 850 throttle cable, volvo 850 wagon, volvo 850

Question
1997 Volvo 850 wagon throttle cable sticks.  when i press on the gas peddle the peddle is very stiff to push and about two thirds of the way thru the peddle travel the peddle hangs up.  twice while driving i have pushed the peddle to the floor and the cable sticks and i have to stomp on the peddle several times to unstick the cable and get the car to slow down.  what is the problem?
Thanks,
Bob

Answer
Bob,
Disconnect the cable under the hood and see if you can then see if the cable is tight or the throttle plate is sticky. If still unsure remove and clean the throttle housing. If that will not fix it replace the cable. Make sure the floor mat is not stuck under or over the gas pedal.
