Volvo: 1987 Volvo 740 intercooler wont start, volvo 740 intercooler, 1987 volvo 740

Question
I blew the hose going to the heater core off the firewall while on the freeway (clamp failed). And the engine overheated pretty severely, but everything seems to check out okay except it won't start. It cranks over strong and gets that little edgy sound like it is about to start but nothing past that any ideas.

Answer
Rainey,
If it has overheated severely do a compression and cylinder leakage test, so you know the engine condition. The Aluminum heads warp fairly easily. Most times they can be taken off and machined flat again. Good chance that the head is warped and building only a little compression. If that all checks out remove the distributor cap to see if it is wet under the cap. Make sure that the wire to the distributor is not broken or pulled out of the distributor
