Volvo: Clicking while turning, volvo xc70, cv joints

Question
My 2003 Volvo XC70 recently started making a clicking/knocking noise while turning.  I brought it into a Volvo certified repair center and they diagnosed it as 1)drive shaft, because it seems to have a little more slack (freehand rotation) than tolerance, but not sure because it only does the noise under a load, and 2)maybe the transfer case if not #1.  They did say it was definitely not the CV joints as they originally thought.  I am not prepared to spend ~$1500 on a driveshaft if that is not the problem without a second opinion.  Thanks,

Answer
Damon,
I have heard of MANY problems with the transfer case and the driveshafts, so that is possible. Since it only happens under load waiting until it gets worse might be a valid option. Sometimes parts need to be replaced to be sure what or where the problem is. Since the parts you need are expensive waiting a while might work better.
