Volvo: volvo v40 warning light, motor mechanic, head gasket

hi ray could u plz help me i have a v40 1998 se 1.8 about 2 months ago the brake light came on and i checked the fluids and they neede topping up i did so and it went out 2 months later its back all levels are fine and my father in law who is a panel beater and a bit of a motor mechanic said the pads are fine but i cant seem to get this light to go out ??? also i found a slight white fluid in my oil not on the cap but in the sump my garage close to me did a gas test and said nothing wrong with the head gasket any ideas why this white is in my oil ???/ thanks

The light for brakes maybe shorted out staying on, maybe the pads are low, have them looked at by a Volvo tech. To be safe have the car inspected right a way. There might be a problem in the hydraulic system that needs attention.
Most often the white milky substance is condensation (water) in the oil. A good long road test should heat up the oil enough to burn that off.
