My car keeps failing inspection..  The on-board computer keeps failing various tests but doesn't say what the problem is exactly.  As far as I can tell, everything is okay.  Neither the "check engine" light nor the "service" light are coming on. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

My guess is that it is not in "readiness" so it fails. To get the control unit ready it will need two drive cycles. Most emission test centers will give you a sheet that states "not in readiness". You need a shop that works on Volvo's to prepare the car for emissions, sometimes there is a computer update that need to be done. Sometime driving the car with the scan tool on watching the tests and there are two that can be done using the VST scan tool.
