Volvo: 2000 V70XC SE questions, tie rod ends, ball joints

Question
Hello sir, I own a lovingly used 2000 V70XC SE that I bought in August of 2007. The car has about 155,000 miles on it. I've had my engine completely flushed, upgraded to full synthetic oil, fixed the alignment, and replaced the air filter with an OEM part. The problem is that: a. My car keeps pulling to one side, and the mechanic said one of my tie-rods or something was loose and needed to be repaired. Should I just replace the entire assembly on both sides all at once? This would include struts, springs, tie-rods, control arm bars, new sway bars, and even polyurethane bushings. Or is it such a minor adjustment that going all out for one five dollar piece is too much? b. My car will freak out at times when I push on the gas a little bit. Sometimes it will whine really loud and jump and buck like it's going to hit 88 mph and go back to the future, then it will drop down and catch into gear. Also at lower speeds, say in a parking lot, I'll let off the gas and it sounds like there is a slight clunk sound when I do that. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Answer
Matt,
It would make sense to do both tie rod ends as a pair. Have the rest inspected and see if the strut plates and ball joints, etc are showing wear. Replace what you feel comfortable with. Putting all new on make good sense to me. Keep this in mind, not all the parts will be worn out, you maybe replacing still useable parts, are you ok with that?
A clunk, or bucking, whine, maybe some bad motor mounts, axle going bad, trans slipping. Road testing will help to find that out.
