Volvo: Powertrain control modules, powertrain control, crash sensor

Question
Are there powertrain control modules in a 1997 Volvo 850? This information is very important to me due to a crash that killed my husband. I want to know if the speed of her car can be determined by this devise.

Thanks,

Vicki

Answer
Vicki,
There are power train modules and they operator the vehicle systems. There is a crash sensor for the SRS (air bag) system that the manufacture can access (not dealers) and retrieve some information about the car itself, as to speed and crash g-force. However I know nothing of how it could read another vehicles speed.
