Question
I ran out of gas, everysince then my car revs up and down, when i push the brake it wants to jump foward till i have it pushed all the way down. how can i fix this without costing me an arm & a leg? thanks

Answer
Patricia,
The fuel system may have picked up some debris from the bottom of the tank. That will require some diagnostic time and that will cost, so are you prepared to take things apart and do some tests? If so get a fuel pressure reading while the engine is idling, that should be about 42 psi, accelerate and make sure that it rises to about 50 psi. Go ahead and change the fuel filter, make sure that you have good gas in the car. While idling check for vacuum leaks paying special attention to the brake booster, since pushing the pedal makes the car idle funny. Correct any leaks and if nothing found out use a injection cleaning system that will hook up to the fuel rail, not using the in car pumps and fuel. That will clean the injectors and give you the chance to see if by using this pressurized cleaning system the idle is better. See using the cleaning system "bypasses" all the pumps and filter in the car. If the car runs better then increase the cleaning system pressure to blow out any debris in the injectors, doing that for about 5 minutes then lower the pressure to slowly remove any remaining debris. See how well that works.
