Volvo: inner tie rod, inner tie rod, outer tie rods

Question
I have a 1990 740 GLE sedan with 180K on it.It's a 16 valve engine. I went to have my wheels aligned, but they couldn't do it because they said my left inner tie rod needs replacing. Should I have both sides replaced and the outer tie rod ends? And is there anything else I should replace? I am doing this myself.

Answer
Bruce,
I always try to do those things in pairs, figuring that they both are the same age and that if I don't the other will need replacing very soon. You may consider both inner and outer tie rods and ball joints along with the strut rod bushings. If the front strut inserts are older this might be a time to replace them also.
