Volvo: need detailed instructions on heater core bypass, heater hoses, flexable hose

Question
i have a 98 V70xc awd and the heater core went out and dumped coolant all over my carpet!  i cleaned it all up and i need to know exactly how to bypass the heater core (pictures would be great!), i cant afford to completely fix it yet.  also i read somewhere that i dont have to take the entire dash out to replace the heater core, just the side panels under the dash. is this true? thanks for your time,

nick

Answer
Nick,
There is no ideal method to "by-pass" the heater core. A suggestion would be to disconnect the heater hoses under the hood and put a flexable hose and clamps between them to hold it together.
Yes remove the side panels look at the center area and you will see two pipes that come form the heater hoses. That will need to be disconnected and two screws both side then the core will be loose. Pull it out and remove it from the housing and replace with the new one. The o'rings on the pipes you can reuse. They use a Torx screw to hold the pipes on.
